We struggled to identify a place to stay in Cooch Behar but after much consideration (and a checking visit by a local friend) we decided on the Royal Palace as the best option in town. It was disappointing. We were two couples and stayed 4 nights in Deluxe Doubles at the front of the building - we asked for quieter locations but were told all other rooms were taken. The good news was that reception was efficient and helpful. The rooms are quite spacious and the bed was comfortable and the bathroom had a great shower. The bad news was that neither the room nor bathroom were clean when we arrived and although an attempt was made to redo them it wasn't much of an improvement (using dirty rag and dirty water, no cleaning products) and we were informed the hotel wasn't used to 'western visitors'. So we gave up and went and bought cleaning materials and did it ourselves, giving the bathroom, light switches, chairs, floor and all the surfaces a thorough clean. However, the team did quickly respond and replaced the grey and marked bed-linen. The road is very noisy so sleep was disturbed. One night there was an event running at the hotel itself with load music until nearly 2am. The lift has an annoying and constant 'close the door' message that runs all night long if someone leaves the door part open. We never found out what the rooms at the back of the hotel are like but if you need peace and quiet, request rear rooms or stay somewhere else. We ate breakfast and a couple of dinners at the hotel. Service was occasionally a bit slow but the staff were helpful and keen to help, though table cloths were rarely replaced with clean ones. Dinner dishes were all good and can be recommended for freshness and portion size. Continental breakfast was poor offering carton fruit juice and toast only. So on balance my review is two stars for the hotel and four stars for the restaurant.

Hotel royal palace is one of the most popular hotels in Coochbehar. The hotel is located at sunity road, very close to sagardighi square and coochbehar palace. The hotel's Rooms are very spacious and rooms were well maintained and room service was satisfactory. Bathroom was clean, big and comfortable for bath. Restaurant of the hotel is very luxury. Foods are delicious. Stuffs are very polite and their behaviour is so nice Totally enjoyed the hotel.

Overall a descent hotel in a small town like Coochbehar, good location. Its better than other hotels around in that place in the same price bracket. Average quality food and service. Can stay with family. Car parking available.

It is average. Very old style lift. From the window you only see the garbage . Staff is not courteous and looking for tips only. Towels are not clean. Food is OK but service is poor. You need to explain twice the things you want. I managed three nights here but given the choice I will certainly move to other hotel. But I doubt whether I will find one better in this city.

Former luxury hotel that has seen better days. It's a bit run down and not good price / value. Rooms and bathroom are big but need an upgrade for this price. Also very noisy because of traffic so bring your earplugs. Staff is not unfriendly.
